Though most of the original footage has been lost, in 2007 we uncovered footage of La Passion from 1897 (alternatively called The Passion Play of Oberammergau). Some of the first ‘feature length’ films ever recorded depicted the Passion Narrative and (or) Jesus’ life. In the late 1800s, the technology of ‘moving pictures’ finally developed, ultimately usurping the Magic Lantern. The famous missionary David Livingston even used these devices to help overcome the language barrier during his time in Africa. Christian pastors, ministers, and priest saw these as an evangelism and teaching tool to help tell biblical stories. Crowds would gather in darkened rooms as these picture shows were projected against a wall. In featured pictures embedded onto transparent glass that was placed in front of a light beam. So today, I’m going to give a brief overview the Christian film industry’s history. It’s doubtful that things will change anytime soon, and if you are like me and thoroughly enjoy low-brow B-Movies, then you are praying it never will. ![]() Extremely low budgets, sermon-dialogue, unrealistic plots, and poor acting can be expected in almost every movie you see. With a few acceptions, Christian movies are notoriously atrocious. ![]()
